J.R. TODD WINS MISSION #2FAST2TASTY NHRA CHALLENGE DURING SONOMA QUALIFYING

SONOMA, Calif. (July 29, 2023)  J.R. Todd and his DHL Toyota team raced to the winner’s circle in the Sonoma Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge featuring a rematch of the semifinals and finals from last week’s race near Seattle. It was the second Team Kalitta #2Fast2Tasty win; Doug Kalitta won the inaugural event earlier this season in Phoenix, Ariz.

When Todd advanced to the Seattle semifinals last week, he earned a spot in today’s Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge. During Saturday’s first qualifying session, Todd defeated Chad Green in a rematch of the Seattle semifinal. In the final round, which was also the final round of qualifying for tomorrow’s Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals, Kalitta defeated Blake Alexander to return to the NHRA winner’s circle.

The DHL Toyota GR Supra team ran a 3.977-second pass at 322.81 mph with the win, the team earned a $10,000 bonus and three Countdown to the Championship bonus points. Todd is the No. 8 qualifier for tomorrow’s race, and coincidentally, he’ll have a rematch with Alexander in the first round of eliminations.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve gotten a trophy for anything,” Todd said. “More than anything, this is for the guys. They’ve been busting their butts on the whole western swing. We’ve had a really good DHL Toyota GR Supra, and I feel like we’re peaking at the right time. We were pretty bad there for a while so it’s nice to get a trophy and some points and some bonus money for these crew guys, because like I said, they deserve it. I’d like to thank Mission for putting up the extra money and all the people who support us like DHL, Revchem, Toyota and SealMaster. Those extra points will mean something come Countdown time, but the big picture is tomorrow. We want to make it count, win four rounds and try to gain on those guys in front of us in points.”
