Worsham Wants Momentum to Continue in Norwalk

Del WorshamNORWALK, Ohio, (July 3, 2013) – Del Worsham, driver of
the DHL Toyota Camry Funny Car for Kalitta Motorsports, is eager to get
his 10,000-horsepower “fuel flopper” back on the track and celebrate
America’s Independence Day at the annual running of NHRA Norwalk
Nationals at Norwalk Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio.

“I’m very excited to race in Norwalk,” Worsham, a 43-year old
resident of Chino Hills, Calif., said. “The Bader family (track owner)
does an awesome job with the event. The fireworks show is the best I’ve
seen, and I wouldn’t want to spend the Fourth of July anywhere else.

“The DHL Toyota Camry has been at the top of the performance charts
for most of the season, but the team has really stepped it up recently,
and we know we have a hot rod that can go out and put up big numbers
and compete for wins. That’s a great feeling to have as a driver.”

Worsham got his 450th elimination-round win and raced to the
quarterfinals at the previous event in Chicago. In Chicago qualifying,
Worsham and the DHL team became the fifth members of the
ultra-exclusive Three-Second Club with their historic 3.999-second,
318.99-mph run (both career bests). The 3.999 elapsed time ranks as
eighth quickest ever in the Funny Car class, and Worsham became the
first driver to have his name on the list for top ten runs of all-time
in both of NHRA’s nitro classes. His 3.735-second run in a Top Fuel
dragster for the Al-Anabi Racing team in 2011 places him ninth quickest
in Top Fuel.

Worsham raced to a runner-up finish earlier this season in
Gainesville, Fla., and has two semi-final appearances thus far this
season (Englishtown, N.J. and Bristol, Tenn.). Worsham is currently No.
9 in NHRA Mello Yello Funny Car championship points.

Worsham began his straight-line racing career in the fall of 1990
and has gone on to secure 33 career wins, including 25 in the Funny Car
class. After switching Nitro classes and clinching the 2011 Top Fuel
NHRA World Championship, the fan-favorite Worsham retired from driving
and became crew chief for fellow Kalitta Motorsports teammate Alexis
DeJoria. After one season out of the driver’s seat, he returned as a
driver this season to take the controls of the DHL Toyota Camry Funny
Car.
