ENGLISHTOWN, N.J., (June 1, 2014) – Sunday in Englishtown, N.J. Doug Kalitta, driver of the Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster, and his teammate Del Worsham, driver of the DHL Toyota Camry Funny Car, both advanced to the final rounds of their respective classes at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park during eliminations of the 45th annual NHRA Toyota SummerNationals.
For Kalitta, it was his fifth final round of the 2014 Mello Yello Drag Racing Series and the 73rd of his career. For Worsham, it was his first time in a final this season and the 52nd “money round” of his career.
Kalitta, the Mello Yello Top Fuel championship points leader, extended his lead over second place to 103 points. Worsham moved up three positions in Mello Yello Funny Car points from seventh to fourth.
Team Kalitta racers have now raced to eight final rounds in the first nine events of the year. Englishtown marked only the second time in the team’s legendary history that it had one of its cars in each of the nitro-fueled racing classes, the first time was in Las Vegas earlier this season (DeJoria – winner and Kalitta – runner-up).
