Kalitta Motorsports News

YPSILANTI, Mich., (March 27, 2014) – Kalitta Motorsports, one of the largest and most successful teams in NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) professional drag racing history, announced today that SealMaster®, a global leader in providing pavement maintenance products and equipment, has signed on to be a major associate sponsor on the team’s two 10,000-horsepower, nitro-fueled Top Fuel dragsters driven by Doug Kalitta and David Grubnic.

The SealMaster® logo will adorn the front sides of the Kalitta’s Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster and the front sides of the Optima Batteries Top Fueler driven by Grubnic, for the entire 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series consists of 24 national events all across the United States.

“This is an amazing opportunity to partner with a great team and two great drivers to represent the SealMaster brand,” says Rick Simon, SealMaster franchise director.

“We couldn't be more excited to welcome SealMaster into our family of partners,” Kalitta Motorsports Team Manager Rachel Brunner said. “Companies need to spend their marketing dollars wisely and we're glad they see the value in NHRA drag racing. We look forward to seeing their franchise owners and customers at each event this year while giving them a great experience with Kalitta Motorsports.”

If Doug Kalitta and his Mac Tools team had mapped out the ideal start to the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, what has transpired over the first three events of the season would be high on the list.

Capping off his three-race hot streak with a victory at the tradition-rich Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals in Florida on March 16, Kalitta built on his Top Fuel points lead and continues to be a step ahead of nearly everyone in the loaded class. He heads into the 15th annual SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend with an impressive amount of momentum and a three-race stretch that includes two No. 1 qualifying positions, two final-round appearances, and one victory. When we talk auto racing in Michigan, it’s usually Roger Penske, Brad Keselowski, Jack Roush or Michigan International Speedway.

Not Ypsilanti — unless, of course, you are among those who know about one of America’s top racing outfits located a stone’s throw from South Huron and I-94.

To those who don’t, welcome to the world of “The Bounty Hunter” — the legendary Connie Kalitta, one of the greatest drivers and team owners in drag-racing history.

Kalitta Motorsports on James L. Hart Parkway is a thriving race shop, employing 60 workers and generating a ton of business and good will in the Ypsilanti area. And so far this season, it is one of the hottest teams in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Read More

Kalitta Gainesville Action

GAINESVILLE, Fla., (March 17, 2014) – Doug Kalitta, driver of the 10,000-horsepower “Big Red” Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster, claimed his first Top Fuel title trophy of the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series Sunday during eliminations of the 45th annual NHRA Gatornationals, one of the most prestigious and historic events on the NHRA calendar, at Auto Plus Raceway at Gainesville (Fla.).

Kalitta Gainesville TrophyKalitta and the Mac Tools team made their way to the Gatornationals winner’s circle by defeating Antron Brown in the Top Fuel final round. Kalitta zipped down the 1,000-ft. drag strip with an impressive 3.830-second, 323.74-mph run to get the win as Brown’s dragster struggled to maintain traction, 5.106 sec., 147.50 mph. The win in Gainesville is Kalitta’s third at the famed event (2005 and 2000). Kalitta now has 34 NHRA Top Fuel trophies on his mantle which ties him for sixth on the all-time Top Fuel wins list.

“We’ve been trying to get a win all year, and we’ve been right on the cusp,” Doug, a 49-year old resident of Ann Arbor, Mich., said. “We have great support among all four of our teams, and that is invaluable. Jim (Oberhofer, crew chief), Troy (Fasching, assistant crew chief) and the entire Mac Tools team have been tremendous. They give me a great race car to drive. It’s a great feeling.”

“Winning the Gatornationals is one of the big ones on the list that every driver wants to win. I’ve been lucky enough to win it three times now. It’s amazing for me and my team.”
