Kalitta Motorsports News

Countdown to the Championship, the top two competitors in three of the four categories are separated by less than a dozen points. With just four races left in the 2013 "playoffs," all four categories are still too close to call, and points will likely get even tighter when the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series visits Gateway Motorsports Park near St. Louis, Missouri this weekend, September 27 through 29, for the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals Read More

Hope4SudanLogoSt. Louis, MO (September 26, 2013) - Hope4Sudan.org announced today that several of NHRA’s top drivers will join the fight to feed, educate and immunize the South Sudanese people.  The campaign will take place at the AAA Insurance NHRA Midwest Nationals on September 27-29, 2013.  Twenty-one teams, including Kalitta Motorsports, have committed to displaying Hope4Sudan decals; in what will prove to be the largest showing of support to date from the drag racing community.

The Hope4Sudan organization was founded in 2008 by one of Drag Racing’s own, Lauren Pickens (former Team Owner of Clay Millican’s Top Fuel Dragster).  “During my first trip to South Sudan, I saw children who were completely naked, sick and hungry. They were so desperate.  I literally didn't know if they would be alive when I returned the next day.  Now, I come back to our compounds and see those same children who were nearly lifeless, now healthy, playing and having fun like a normal child should. I am so humbled and blessed to know I had a part in making a difference in their lives,” Pickens said.

The 501(c)3 organization operates through donations and volunteerism with 100% of the donation dollars going to the establishment of compounds with deep water wells, schools, medical clinics and churches.  Since its inception, Hope4Sudan has developed several components; each bringing global recognition and support to the cause:

DALLAS, (Sept. 22, 2013) – The wait is over. Doug Kalitta, driver of the “Big Red” Mac Tools Top Fuel dragster, is once again in the winner’s circle at an NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series event. Kalitta and his team lead by crew chief Jim Oberhofer were victorious Sunday in eliminations at the annual running of the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals in Ennis, Texas, just a few miles south of downtown Dallas.

The win marks the first of the season for the 16-year Top Fuel veteran and the 33rd of his illustrious career driving in the world’s quickest and fastest auto racing class. It also ends the longest winless streak of his career at 71 events (Denver, 2010). The victory in Dallas moves Kalitta into a tie for the Mello Yello Top Fuel championship points lead with only four events remaining in the 2013 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Kalitta, who entered the Dallas event in fourth place in points, has not been in or shared the points lead for the class since the season-opening event, the famed Winternationals, in 2009. He is a two-time Top Fuel championship runner-up.

ENNIS, Texas (September 22, 2013)— The Kalitta Motorsports Tequila Patrón Toyota Camry Funny Car team enjoyed clean, consistent passes throughout the 28th annual AAA NHRA Texas Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex this weekend, but despite the car’s solid performance, fell short to Jack Beckman in round one of eliminations on Sunday.

After losing two qualifying sessions due to persistent rains on Friday, the Patrón team qualified in the No. 11 spot with their 4.166-second run from Q2 on Saturday afternoon which pitted Alexis DeJoria, pilot of the black and green Patrón hot rod, against Jack Beckman in the opening elimination round Sunday morning. DeJoria was first off the line, but her 4.158-sec at 301.0-mph pass wasn’t enough to set off the win light against Beckman’s 4.107-sec run.

“The NHRA Texas Fall Nationals definitely got off to a dramatic start this weekend. We lost our first day of qualifying due to rain, so it was down to just two chances today to get this Patron hot rod into the Sunday show. On our first pass, the car ran really well but unfortunately, I missed the tree and left too soon so we didn’t get a time. Thankfully, we were able to make it up second round with that 4.166. At the conclusion of qualifying, we finished up in the No. 11 spot and face Jack Beckman in round one tomorrow. It’s kind of funny that we’re going up against each other, because we’re the two drivers being ‘auctioned off’ at the DRAW [Drag Racing Association of Women] charity fundraiser tonight. I’m looking forward to racing tomorrow and going rounds.”
