Kalitta Motorsports will field all three Top Fuel dragsters in the 2008 NHRA Countdown to 1


INDIANAPOLIS, (Sept. 1, 2008)
– All three of the 8,000-horsepower, Nitro-fueled Top Fuel dragsters of Kalitta Motorsports, based in Ypsilanti, Mich., have secured berths in the 10-car NHRA postseason. The Countdown to 1 playoffs begin at next event in the 24-event 2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, the inaugural NHRA Carolinas Nationals at zMax Dragway at Concord in Concord, N.C., Sept. 11-14.

Hillary Will, driver of the Kalitta Motorsports-managed, Ken Black-owned KB Racing, LLC Top Fueler, will enter the Countdown to 1 in 7th place in POWERade points, while her Team Kalitta teammates, Doug Kalitta, driver of the Mac Tools flagship dragster, and Dave Grubnic, driver of the DHL rail, will enter the six-race charge to the Top Fuel championship in 9th and 10th place respectively.

The 2008 NHRA Countdown to the Championship began with the Countdown to 10 at the first event of the season in Pomona, Calif., and the regular season concluded Labor Day at the 18th and most prestigious event on the season’s schedule, the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis.

“Needless to say, it’s been a tough year for all of us,” Connie Kalitta, team owner and drag racing legend, said. “Getting all of our dragsters in the Countdown to 1 is a big deal for this team. It’s big for all of our sponsors, too. Mac Tools and DHL and all of sponsors have been very supportive with everything we’ve been through this year, and we hope we can continue to run well for them all in the Countdown to 1.”

Connie serves as head tuner for all Team Kalitta entries. He is assisted by crew chiefs Jim Oberhofer (KB Racing, LLC dragster) and Glenn Mikres (DHL Funny Car). Connie serves as crew chief on the DHL dragster with assistance from co-crew chief James Riola. Jon Oberhofer and Nick Boninfante are co-crew chiefs on the Mac Tools dragster.
