LAS VEGAS, (Nov. 2, 2008) – As the 2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series

Will, the world’s fastest female, qualified her palm tree-clad Palm Beach Int’l
Raceway rail in the No. 6 (3.861 seconds, 303.84 mph) position for today’s
eliminations. In the opening round of the 16-car race-day tournament, Will
defeated her Kalitta Motorsports teammate, No. 11 qualifier Doug Kalitta,

experiencing traction problems before it reached the half-track timing triggers
and that let her opponent get to the finish line first, 4.648 sec., 199.23 mph
to 3.813 sec., 318.32 mph.
Will will now enter the final event of the season in two weeks in Pomona,
Calif., in 2nd place in POWERade championship points with a slight nine-point
lead over 3rd place.
“I’m really proud of my team for getting our 50th round win together,” Will, a
28-year old native of Fortuna, Calif., said. “We’ve had a great car all year
long and that’s because we have a great team and great owners (Las Vegas-based
Ken and Kenny Black) and I can’t thank them all enough.
“We’re disappointed today, sure. We thought we had a good shot at getting
another win today, but I guess it just wasn’t in the cards. We’re really happy
we were able to stay in 2nd in points. Since the championship has already been
decided, our goal is finish the year in 2nd. It’s really close, but we’ll be
ready to fight hard for it in Pomona.”
Will became the fastest woman in the history of NHRA drag racing when she posted
a 334.65-mph lap down the quarter-mile race track at the first of event of the
2008 season in Pomona, Calif. Will became the fastest female in the NHRA’s new
1,000-ft. era by crossing the track timers at 315.49 mph at the event in
Richmond, Va.
Will is currently the only female driver competing in the Top Fuel class.
A former standout in the Top Alcohol Dragster class, Will moved up to the
quickest and fastest NHRA professional class, Top Fuel, in 2006 behind the wheel
of a newly formed team owned by Las Vegas businessman Ken Black and managed by
Kalitta Motorsports, the multi-car team founded and owned by drag racing icon
Connie “the Bounty Hunter” Kalitta. She won her first Top Fuel event trophy in
Norwalk (IHRA) in her rookie season and made her first NHRA final-round
appearance in Memphis later that year. She finished the season in 10th place in
Top Fuel championship points in ‘06. Will picked up an emotional first NHRA
national event title in Topeka, Kan., June 1, 2008.
