Hillary Will, KB Racing, LLC Top Fuel dragster – No. 3 qualifier, advanced to round one

NHRA’s Hillary Will solidifies fastest female status in Phoenix

PHOENIX, Ariz., (Feb. 25, 2008)
– For the second consecutive 2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event, rising Top Fuel dragster star Hillary Will and her KB Racing, LLC Top Fuel dragster team set a new track speed record. The latest fast filing came at this past weekend’s Checker Schuck’s Kragen NHRA Nationals at Firebird Int’l Raceway in Phoenix, Ariz.

Two weeks ago at the season-opening event of the NHRA drag racing season, Will became the fastest female in the sport’s history with a blistering 334.65-mph blast down the famed quarter-mile track in Pomona, Calif. That mark also set a track record at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona. During a qualifying run Saturday in Phoenix, Will set the speed bar higher at Firebird Int’l Raceway with a stellar 334.32-mph blast.

During yesterday’s final eliminations at the Checker Schuck’s Kragen NHRA Nationals, Will and her team entered the day’s competition as the No. 3 qualifier (4.532 seconds) to take on No. 14 qualifier Mike Strasburg. Will’s rail shook its big rear tires quickly after the race began and, despite an intrepid effort by Will to get her race car to regain valuable traction, she had to give up the win to Strasburg, 10.431 sec., 76.27 mph to 5.568 sec., 174.59 mph.

A former standout in the Top Alcohol Dragster class, Will moved up to the quickest and fastest NHRA professional class, Top Fuel, in 2006 behind the wheel of a newly formed team owned by Las Vegas businessman Ken Black and managed by Kalitta Motorsports, the multi-car team founded and owned by drag racing icon Connie “the Bounty Hunter” Kalitta. She won her first Top Fuel event trophy in Norwalk (IHRA) in her rookie season and made her first NHRA final-round appearance in Memphis. She finished the season in tenth place in Top Fuel championship points in ‘06.

The Checker Schuck’s Kragen NHRA Nationals was the 2nd of 24 national events in the 2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
