Hillary Will and the KB Racing, LLC team looking for win lights and 3s in
Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, Fla., (March 12, 2008) – At the first two events of this
season’s 24-event NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series, rising rail star Hillary
Will, driver of the 8,000-horspower KB Racing, LLC Top Fuel dragster, has set
the track record for speed, for either gender, at both of the quarter-miles at
Phoenix Int’l Raceway (334.32 mph) and at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona
(Calif.) (334.56 mph). Will’s speedy blast in California also established her as
the fastest female in the history of NHRA drag racing.
This weekend, March 13-16, Will and her team will try for their third
consecutive track speed record at legendary Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville,
Fla., during the annual running of the ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals. The current
speed record on the famed Florida drag strip is 333.95 mph.
“That would be a great accomplishment for my team, but we’re looking for
something more,” Will, a 27-year old native of Fortuna, Calif., said. “Our team
has been working so hard to give me a great race car to drive. It would be
incredible to pick up our first win (NHRA) in Gainesville this weekend. The
Gatornationals is near the top of every driver’s ‘want-to-win’ list. Maybe we
can have the best of both worlds and do both this weekend.”
Will recently returned from a 10-day trip to Afghanistan as part of a goodwill
military tour with NASCAR drivers Ricky Craven, Randy LaJoie, and Jeff Fuller.
“The trip was very rewarding,” Will stated. “Seeing what our troops go though
over there every day makes you cherish the freedoms that we have that we often
take for granted. It was an eye-opening experience, to say the least.”
A former standout in the Top Alcohol Dragster class, Will moved up to the
quickest and fastest NHRA professional class, Top Fuel, in 2006 behind the wheel
of a newly formed team owned by Las Vegas businessman Ken Black and managed by
Kalitta Motorsports, the multi-car team founded and owned by drag racing icon
Connie “the Bounty Hunter” Kalitta. She won her first Top Fuel event trophy in
Norwalk (IHRA) in her rookie season and made her first NHRA final-round
appearance in Memphis. She finished the season in tenth place in Top Fuel
championship points in ‘06.
The ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals begins Friday for the nitro-fueled classes with
two qualifying sessions at 1:00 p.m. (ET) and 3:30 p.m. Two more qualifying
opportunities take place Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The top sixteen
qualified cars will race Sunday in final eliminations beginning at 11:00 a.m.
All times and dates subject to change.
The ACDelco NHRA Gatornationals is the 3rd of 24 national events in the 2008
NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
